Essential Technology + Equipment

Adobe Illustrator
For the Immersion Course, you'll need the full version of Illustrator (not the iPad app).

Sketchbook
Any paper or sketchbook will do! Just make sure it's smooth and free from lines or dots.

PENS + Pencils
Anything will do! I prefer a smooth dark ink like these Uni Pens and my favorite Blackwing pencils.

camera or smartphone
You'll need a way to capture images for inspiration. Your phone camera will work perfectly! You can also use a DSLR camera if you prefer, but it's not necessary.
Recommended Technology + Equipment
These are optional but tested and approved.
TRACING PAPER
if you don’t have a digital drawing tool like a Wacom or iPad Pro, you can replicate the same process by using a lightbox or tracing paper. Here's my favorite tracing paper.
The iPad Pro
Since the iPad Pro + Apple Pencil hit the market, illustrators, hand-letterers, and artists all over have been falling in love with it. The iPad is portable and can be taken anywhere.
Drawing Tablet
A Wacom Tablet is a tool that can aid your drawing right within Illustrator. The stylus gives you more control than drawing with a mouse. It must be connected to your computer.
Scanner
A scanner provides the best and most accurate way to get your sketches or paintings into the computer to work from. Most any scanner will work, here's the one I use.
Lightbox
If you don’t have a drawing tablet, you can replicate the same process using a lightbox or tracing paper. *Hint: you can also tape two pieces of paper up to a window!
